About us

Who We Are! Our Past, Present and Future

Betty Honn founded Animal Adoptions in 1968, the first no-kill animal sanctuary and adoptions facility in Southern Nevada. In 1973, we were recognized as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, we were also incorporated in the State of Nevada that same year.

For years, our facility was the only option owners of pets had besides the local pound and euthanasia.

Animal Adoptions did not just take in dogs and cats, but also lions, tigers, bears and everything in between. Betty soon became a household name, known for her compassion and dedication in fighting for the lives of all animals that came under her care. In 1995, the Review Journal named her “Advocate of the Year”, in the “Best of Las Vegas.” We have a library of stories about the path only Betty Honn could have walked.

Betty passed away in 1997, leaving a legacy matched by few. Betty’s daughter, Teresa Johns, is continuing the commitment and dedication in making a difference in the lives of animals that find themselves in need. We strive to meet the challenges that our pets in our community face daily.

Due to the encroachment of people and businesses, Animal Adoptions was force to close its gates in the City of Henderson. We now rely on fosters to provide a temporary home for the pets that come to us until a new one can be found.

We strive to help in resolving problems that are unique in nature, that relate to the care and well-being of the animals that find themselves in need. We assist, as funds allow, in the spaying and the neutering of the pets own by low-income families. We envision a future that will be free of all the unnecessary deaths that occur in our shelters each year.

Throughout the years, we have saved countless animals from needlessly being destroyed, neglected, or homeless. We have been, and will continued to be, here to improve the quality of life for the animals in our community.

It’s through donations and support from our caring community and businesses that has kept Betty Honn’s Animal Adoptions alive throughout the years. If you would like to help us, help the animals, you could foster one of our pets or send a donation to P.O. Box 90838 Henderson, NV. 89009. Please call us at (702) 361-2484
